How this calculator works

This tool estimates UK take-home pay using 2026/27 Income Tax and National Insurance thresholds:

  • Personal Allowance: £12,570 (tapered above £100,000, removed entirely above £125,140)
  • Basic rate: 20% on income between £12,570 and £50,270
  • Higher rate: 40% on income between £50,270 and £125,140
  • Additional rate: 45% on income above £125,140
  • Employee National Insurance: 8% between £12,570 and £50,270, then 2% above

Regional comparison figures use the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE), October 2025 release, median annual full-time equivalent pay by region.
